Atmospheric Crude  & Vacuum Crude Heater Experience

ThermaTran has a large backlog of experience in  atmospheric crude charge heaters ranging in size from 5.2 MMBtu/hr to 450 MMBtu/hr. Further we have designed and built  vacuum crude heaters ranging in size from 3.6 MMBtu/hr to 180 MMBtu/hr. Additionally, we have provided soot blowers, oil, gas and combination  combustion, waste stream combustion, air preheat and multi-service convection sections in these heaters.  Further, we have provided for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) units, specialized combustion systems such as flue gas recycle or  utilization of turbine exhausts for combustion O2 supply.

F
rom a software standpoint, the fundamental item of importance to the customer is that the tube-by-tube design program allows ThermaTran to maintain the smallest diameter of pipe at any given point in the coil and particularly at the point where vaporization begins. This specific ability allows ThermaTran to design the process coil with the minimum residence time and generally highest inside heat transfer rate/lowest film temperatures. All of this means the ThermaTran designs tend to coke up less and provide longer run lengths between decokings, a critical operational variable in  today's modern refinery, which require maximum unit run lengths.  This is particularly crucial in vacuum heaters.
